What are Head Lice?
Head lice (Pediculus capitis) are small parasitic insects that live mainly on the scalp and neck hairs of their human host. Head lice are mainly acquired by direct head-to-head contact with an infested person's hair, but can also be transferred with shared combs, brushes and hats.
How did my child get them?
Head or hair lice are most commonly picked up at school or kindergarten where children have close contact with others during play. Young girls are more likely to get them than boys because their play activity is more social and their hair is often longer.
What are my treatment options?
Traditionally, treatments have included a number of synthetic chemicals, but head lice are developing resistance to many of these, and they can cause side effects such as headaches and nausea in some children.
A simple, natural and effective treatment is with an oil or cream containing a low concentration of Manuka essential oil. Head lice hate the smell of this oil and will vacate their new home immediately.

This is the best product I have found for head lice. My children are constantly exposed to them at school, and our solution is 4% Manuka oil which brings them out immediately, we leave it on for about two hours as recommended, and then wash out.
