Manu Blog

The following email was received from an American family who has been working at an orphanage in Liberia for the past year. We supplied a selection of Manuka products which we thought might be helpful in treating the conditions they would encounter in the orphanage, Claudia makes the following comments:

Hello Bill

I hope this finds you well.

My family and I have returned from the orphanage in Liberia, West Africa much sooner than expected but we did get to use Manuka Oil daily and I wanted to update you on our 'Manuka Oil Research'.

The by far biggest challenge was the mosquitoes.  We tried the Manuka Cream, pure Manuka Oil, we made our own mix of Manuka Oil with other essential oils and local coconut oil.  We also made a spray that we would carry with us when we were outside.

Any topical treatment would only give us about 30 minutes of protection.  We could literally see the mosquitoes hovering around us, waiting to move in for a bit.  The water based spray we used in addition to the creams on the skin.  When we were sitting outdoors we would spray a mist around us every few minutes which help to deter some.

Bottom-line, Manuka Oil /products did not have any long lasting effect on the West African anopheles mosquitoes (night time feeders).  FYI -  DEET products were not successful in providing more that 30 minutes of relive either.

However, we did have much greater, longer lasting success deterring day-time mosquitoes by applying Manuka Oil and cream to our skin.

I can report however, great success in treating many tropical skin conditions such as severe impetigo and fungal infections.

We applied 100 % Manuka Oil 2 times a day and 3 times a day for all 'itching' skin conditions.  I am excited to report that bacterial infections cleared up in 3 days and were completely eliminated in 7 days.  It appeared the fungus (ringworm type) infections responded just as quick to our treatment.  After 7 days new skin appeared, we did continue treatment for another week just to make sure the fungus would not return.

One of my daughters also had a moderate outbreak of eczema, which at first we treated with conventional 'broad spectrum fix-it-all ointment' from the pharmacy.  Initially her skin responded well but of course it just was a suppression of the symptoms and the rashy - scaly skin came back with a vengeance once we stopped the prescription cream.  I decided to apply 100 % Manuka Oil to the most inflamed patches of her skin and the rest of her arms we rubbed with Manuka Cream twice daily.  With in 10 days the eczema was gone and did not return.

We also had some very inflamed gum tissue that we carefully treated with 100% Manuka oil with great success.  I can also report that we treated a little boy with some unidentified rash on his neck by applying coconut oil mixed with Manuka Oil.  The little guy had been to the hospital and been prescribed topical ointments which seem to have worsened his condition. He complaint of intense itching and little bumps, blisters.  His mom applied our homemade oil mix twice a day and with in 36 hours the itch was gone and a week later there were no more bumps.

I hope this was interesting information for you.  Feel free to use any of it on your web-site.  It might be helpful to someone.

I want to thank you for your great products.  I have proved that they work.  Nature is wonderful and I am glad that you have decided to bring us these wonderful products.

Thank you again

Sincerely
